How the digital city is helping smart mobility

Growing urbanisation, a challenge for mobility

Share Share on Twitter Bookmark on Deli.co.us

Growing urbanisation is creating considerable challenges in terms of mobility. So-called intelligent, or smart, cities are increasingly using new information and communication technologies (ICT) towards their goal of freeing up data in order to allow citizens and the private sector access to a maximum amount of information. This is leading to the development of new sustainable mobility tools and services, for both public and private transport.

In the digital, interactive city, it will be easier to gather and distribute real-time information, everywhere and via all media (such as the Internet and mobile telephony). Thanks to software, sensors and simulation or modelling tools, there will be a real revolution in urban flow management (traffic, pollution, etc.). New digital technologies will thus contribute to optimised citizen travel by allowing passengers to combine or to share several means of transport: car, tram, bus, bike, etc.
