Intimately linked to urban mobility policies, parking is an ambivalent instrument that serves both the car and traffic regulation. Thanks to new technologies, it now offers improved access and payment amenities as well as better management of parking areas and information. By means of public or private car parks, it also favours intermodality by providing the possibilities of transfer to other means of transport. In addition, there are new mobile applications that can reduce the time spent looking for available parking spaces and, consequently, the related annoyances, such as noise, pollution, congestion, etc. Parking also appears to be a powerful driver in terms of the development of electric vehicles through the massive rollout of charging terminals on kerbsides and in buildings.
