On 8th July 2010, the Solar Impulse plane carried out a 26-hour flight, powered purely by solar energy. Created by the Swiss Bertrand Piccard, the plane managed to fly all night long thanks to the electricity that had been produced through solar energy during the day.
This initiative follows an increasing number of green innovations in the air transport sector. The Cri Cri electric plane thus made its maiden voyage at the latest Green Aviation Show, not long after the performance of the e430 electric two-seater from Chinese start-up Yuneec.
Moreover, the French civil aviation authority (DGAC), in partnership with the French Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea, has launched the eco-calculator in order to raise awareness of these issues among citizens.
