The Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea launches the first European Mobility and Road Safety Week.
For the first time, the
Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea is combining the
European Mobility Week and the European Road Safety Week in order to create a unique annual event that will allow the messages pertaining to
sustainable transport and
road safety to be put across simultaneously.
The Week, with its
“Get around differently” slogan, is co-ordinated by the Ministry, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe), the Public Transport Target Economic Interest Group, the European Cyclists Federation (FUBicy) and the Cycle Town Club.
The 2009 edition wishes to promote
better use of public space, and
users’ travel safety, especially that of the most vulnerable. It will make every effort to favour alternative solutions to car journeys.
In the context of the Week, the Ministry will launch an
"request for proposals" for the attention of local authorities, companies running transport networks, businesses, associations, public services and schools. All are being asked to organise
awareness events on the themes of sustainable mobility and road safety. The projects will broach one or more of the following themes:
road sharing,
fuel-efficient driving, school and home-work commuting, motorised
2-wheel vehicles, transport on-demand and alternative car use.
