the launch of the local authority co-operative Autolib’, which brings together 26 municipalities
in the Parisian agglomeration and aims to implement a self-service electric-car rental scheme.
The co-operative has elected as President
Annick Lepetit, Deputy-Mayor of Paris, responsible for transport.
The members are: Paris, Bagneux, Clamart, Fontenay-aux-Roses, Malakoff, Créteil, Alfortville, Limeil-Brévannes, Boulogne-Billancourt, Sèvres, Arcueil, Bagnolet, Le Bourget, Cachan, Charenton-le-Pont, Saint-Maurice, Drancy, La Garenne-Colombes, Les Lilas, Montrouge, Nanterre, Neuilly-sur-Seine, Pantin, Saint-Mandé, Sceaux and Villeneuve-la-Garenne.
Other towns announcing "imminent membership", clarifies the press release from Paris Town Hall, are: Levallois-Perret, Maisons-Alfort, Rueil-Malmaison, Suresnes and Romainville.
The Ile-de-France region also plans to join the local authority co-operative "
before the end of the year."
An
invitation to tender for the management of the Autolib’ scheme will be launched in December 2009.
The scheme, which should hit the road in 2010, expects to install more than
1,000 stations, including 700 in inner-city Paris. Around 3,000
electric vehicles will be available 24/7. The stations will be installed curbside or in underground car parks.
