Better Place’s new centre is constructed in a former oil tank, refurbished for this use, and therefore synonymous with the transition between fossil fuels and the electric revolution. Its purpose is to familiarise the public with the company and its unique service linked to the electric vehicle.
It thus comprises a conference room, an interactive information centre, and a driving area in which visitors can test drive the vehicles.
Israel, homeland of Better Place and home to a nationwide experiment
During a press conference, Shai Agassi, Founder and CEO, insisted on emphasising the size of the task that the brand is giving itself: "With the Better Place project, we are producing, for the first time in Israel, the solution to one of the greatest problems in the world." He declared. "By happy coincidence, the Israeli government today announced that it was calling for a national plan to reduce Israel’s dependency on fossil fuels. I assure you that we have nothing to do with that, but we are happy that the government is taking the same direction as us."
He guaranteed, very optimistically, that the company logo would one day be as well-known as Macintosh’s Apple or Nike’s ‘swoosh’.
Essential partnerships
The "electric revolution " can only take place if the other players in the mobility arena participate in the collective effort.
17 local councils and the Israeli local authorities are thus setting an example by agreeing to install charge spots in their towns.
Better Place announced that agreements had already been signed with 92 Israeli companies, including Motorola, which will convert part of their fleets to electric vehicles as soon as those are commercially available.
However, it was above all announcement of the strategic agreement between Better Place and the large gas operator Dor Alon that took precedence. This agreement will see 170 battery switch stations deployed in Dor Alon filling stations, which are very well established all over Israel.
