The Minister of Industry, Christian Estrosi, has announced the launch, by the State and public- and private-sector partners, of several invitations to tender for the purchase of 50,000 electric vehicles.

"This autumn we will launch several invitations to tender (...) for the purchase of 50,000 electric vehicles", declared Mr Estrosi, during a speech at the Commission for Atomic Energy  (CEA) of Grenoble, on Tuesday 22nd September.

These invitations to tender will be launched by the State, which has to acquire 5,000 electric vehicles. This is for organisations that possess fleets of utility vehicles, such as the French Post Office, EDF, the SNCF, Veolia, or even Vinci, but also State and local authority services.

Over 5 years, the State will look to rally new partners, its objective being the eventual purchase of 100,000 vehicles, it was explained in the Minister’s entourage.

The Minister has also announced that the State would participate, through the French Sovereign Fund, in the planned construction of a battery manufacturing plant in Flins (Yvelines) and of a research centre in Grenoble to improve upon existing technology.

According to the Minister’s entourage, this project represents "a total investment of a billion and a half euros, including almost 700 million for the first phase between now and 2014."
