Defining concepts: sustainable mobility and indicators in transport policy

Subject: This case study revisits the concept of "sustainable mobility" and attempts to define the methods through which transport players have integrated new environmental targets, compared to traditional economic targets. The article highlights various policy instruments, such as indicators, that have been put in place in order to contribute to improving transport.

• Better Place is testing a battery switch station for electric taxis in Tokyo
  On the 28th April 2010, the start up Better Place, in partnership with the taxi company Nihon Kotsu and the Japanese Ministry for Economy, Commerce and Industry, opened the first battery switch station for electric taxis in the city of Tokyo. A first step before the commercialisation of the system planned for 2011.

  During the 182nd day of the Permanent Group for the Study of the Automobile Industry and its Employees (GERPISA - Groupe d' Etudes et de Recherches Permanent sur l'Industrie et les Salariés de l'Automobile), which took place at the Paris Motor Show in October, Olivier Paul-Dubois-Taine, a former engineer from Ponts et chaussées (a top French engineering school),  gave a comprehensive presentation on the new requirements of mobility and the societal changes necessary in order to promote its emergence.
