Defining concepts: sustainable mobility and indicators in transport policy

Subject: This case study revisits the concept of "sustainable mobility" and attempts to define the methods through which transport players have integrated new environmental targets, compared to traditional economic targets. The article highlights various policy instruments, such as indicators, that have been put in place in order to contribute to improving transport.

         In order to be able to measure the performance of an element, it has to be have been effectively put in place, even if it’s a question of concepts relating to transport and to mobility. Such is exactly the approach followed in the wide range of system and setting indicators recently introduced into policy elaboration process within and outside of the transport sector. For instance, we can cite the system indicators of environment, of sustainable development and of transport, and the indicators of political performance.
